" I certainly enjoyed your relaxing treatment and meeting you - just wish you were nearer for regular sessions when necessary" Jacqui - Remedial Massage Client. Norwich
"I book myself in for a massage with Tonia whenever she comes into our office - so relaxing (with a lovely comfy chair) and she really knows her stuff! She applies just the right amount of pressure and seeks out and destroys all those knotty bits that build up over the course of a stressful week. I feel physically lighter and mentally more positive after a session. Definitely the best massages I've ever had - I would recommend her to anyone".

Also known as seated Massage or Chair Massage, on-site massage as we know it was first introduced in 1984 by an American Therapist. He started out by giving short back, neck and shoulder treatments to employees of Apple Computers in the Silicon Valley. His treatments were so successful that he went on to develop a purpose built massage chair that placed the recipient in a comfortable and fully supported position thereby enabling a far more effective treatment.
On-Site Massage was first seen in the UK in the late 1980's and has since received coverage in the broadsheets, tabloids and popular magazines. Taking massage into the workplace makes it affordable, convenient and hugely accessible.
Chair Massage draws upon Acupressure, Amma and Swedish Massage. Although a fairly recent concept in itself, the techniques used are centuries old.
Acupressure
More than five thousand years ago, the Chinese discovered that pressing certain points on the body relieved pain where it occurred and also benefited other parts of the body more remote from the pain and the pressure point. Gradually, they found other locations that not only alleviated pain, but also influenced the functioning of certain internal organs. The healing touch of acupressure reduces tension, increases circulation, and enables the body to relax deeply. By relieving stress, acupressure strengthens resistance to disease and promotes wellness. The origins of acupressure are as ancient as the instinctive impulse to hold your forehead or temples when you have a headache. Everyone at one time or another has used their hands spontaneously to hold tense or painful places on the body.
Amma
Amma, or anma as it is also known, is the traditional word for massage in the Japanese language. It comes from the Chinese tradition of massage, anmo. This form of bodywork is based on the principles of Chinese medicine and is more than five thousand years old. When anmo was brought to Japan, the technique was further refined into its own therapeutic art form. Shiatsu, a style of bodywork popularised after World War II, was developed from the amma tradition. Unlike Western massage, amma utilises no oils and can be done through clothing with the client either sitting or lying. This makes amma an extremely flexible style of massage.
On-Site Massage In the modern workplace
Treatments are usually 15-20 minutes long. The person receiving the treatment remains fully clothed throughout. No oils or creams are used.
A purpose built chair is used which places the body in a comfortable and relaxed position. This also allows treatments to be carried out in smaller areas if space is restricted.
The therapist eases tension and increases circulation in key muscle groups using a combination of massage, acupressure and stretching techniques to leave you relaxed and calm, yet energised and alert. The positive effects of seated massage are immediate.
